Position Overview:
The HR Generalist serves as a vital onsite partner to the Corporate HR Manager, ensuring smooth and efficient human resources operations at American Melt Blown & Filtration (AMBF), Rensselaer manufacturing facility, which specializes in filtration products. This role provides comprehensive HR administrative support, leads hourly and skilled-trade recruitment and onboarding, and ensures compliance with all relevant federal, state, and company policies. As the primary HR contact onsite, Generalist champions employee engagement, training, and development initiatives that promote a positive, safe, and productive workplace culture.
The HR Generalist will also provide remote HR assistance to the California team as required from time to time. This position requires a highly organized, detail-oriented professional with strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of aligning plant-level activities with broader corporate HR strategies.
Principal Responsibilities:
HR Administrative Support
Maintain accurate and up to date personnel records for Attendance, Training, Postings and Chronology of positions, Disciplinary Actions, Performance Appraisals, 30/60/90-day reviews, Needs Assessments, etc.
Develop and maintain HR monthly reports for management including turnover, absenteeism, manpower, labour hours and recruitment.
Create, implement and maintain location specific reference manuals, standards, policies, procedures and work instructions that fall under the scope of HR.
Collect agency employee timesheets, ensure accuracy and completion prior to submission to Accounts Payable team.
Support the administration and interpretation of group benefits and 401(k) programs for employees.
Coordinate and manage non-occupational medical leaves and Return to Work (RTW) processes in accordance with company policy and applicable federal regulations (e.g., FMLA, ADA).
Provide administrative and logistical support for HR initiatives such as talent development programs, diversity & inclusion efforts, and company-wide rollouts (e.g., handbook updates, systems changes).
Conduct periodic personnel file audits to ensure all documentation is complete, compliant, and retained according to policy.
Provide support to leadership team for ADP employee access.
Recruitment & Selection
Develop and execute full cycle recruitment efforts for all hourly staff and skilled trades – sourcing, develop postings, screening, interviewing, testing, conducting reference checks, preparing offer letters, etc. and assist with salaried recruitment efforts as needed.
Develop and implement effective onboarding procedures, conduct new employee orientations, and ensure the complete onboarding package is accurately prepared and submitted to Corporate HR and Payroll for processing.
Develop, maintain, and update hourly job descriptions, and provide support in the preparation and revision of salaried job descriptions.
Employee Engagement
Develop and administer effective rewards and recognition programs.
Support and develop employee engagement activities and initiatives including employee appreciation events, annual training, etc.
Administer the employee engagement survey and participate in creating an action plan in conjunction with management.
Training & Development
Provide relevant HR training to hourly employees (Respect in the Workplace Policy, Substance Abuse Policy, Understanding our Business, etc.)
Assist in maintaining the plant’s Training Matrix.
Ensure the completion of documented evaluation sheets.
Support the development of assessment criteria for career progression.
Performance Management
Monitor and support 30/60/90 day and annual evaluations.
Support and help facilitate performance improvement plans.
Prepare disciplinary actions for hourly employees and support supervisors and managers where necessary.
Coach leadership on performance management strategies.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in meeting Corporate HR Scorecard objectives as part of the internal HR Audit.
Conduct Hourly Exit Interviews.
Publish important communications to employees using appropriate communication channels.
Support Corporate HR with investigations as needed.
Assist with coordination of site-level health and safety training, including onboarding safety orientations, PPE requirements, and refreshers.
Support incident reporting and tracking processes, ensuring timely documentation and follow-up on corrective actions.
Help maintain compliance with OSHA regulations by conducting basic audits (e.g., eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, safety boards) and assisting with recordkeeping (e.g., OSHA 300 logs).
Promote employee participation in safety initiatives, such as safety talks, safety suggestion programs, or monthly H&S campaigns.
Maintain and participate in 5S and Continuous Improvement practices.
Maintain inventory of office supplies and replenish as needed.
Perform other duties and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by management.
Required Skills/ Qualifications:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
1-2 years of HR experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
Strong knowledge of US employment laws and regulations (FMLA, ADA, EEO, OSHA, etc.).
Experience with full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, and employee relations.
Proficient with HRIS systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and HR reporting tools.
Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Occasional travel may be required to support HR functions across other company locations.
